Poem:
EXCHANGE
Date

Inside a sea of contradictions.
Hallowed truth and wild fictions.
Benedictions soft and sweet.
Hate, addiction, loss, defeat.
They meet in you as living breath.
Complete you by giving death.
That final act of take and give.
You die, and so again, can live.

BELOVED

I saw you, oh Beloved, just beyond reach. Above my fingertips, you stripped the tree of leaves so they could find their rest upon your bosom.
As you stilled the morning, the starlings gathered on the old spruce tree to sing your name. In thanks, you lifted them up. Gave them the levity that gives them their name.
You give me that too, even if I'm a little more grounded.
You are the chill in my bones, and the warmth of my own breath. You are the night and you are the day, and so I feel you most in the times in between. In the still and the waking, in the giving and the taking. You are my death, you are my life, and so too my rebirth in my pain. My each, my every.
You are closer to me than my own self, part and parcel to this aching heart. How then, am I lonely when you are forever near? How then, do I long for you, when you are always here? A great divide, yet in all this distance, I feel you there too.
For every answer, you are the question. And so for every question you are the answer. Ethereal, unknowable, yet I know nothing else. My Beloved: the lover, the loved, and the love itself.
